Asphalt Resurfacing & Overlay in San Diego
Bring a worn San Diego driveway or lot back with a fresh asphalt overlay — a smooth, deep-black surface for a fraction of a full tear-out.
When your asphalt is cracked, gray, and rough on top but the base underneath is still holding firm, you usually don't have to rip the whole thing out. Resurfacing — an overlay — lays a fresh course of hot-mix asphalt right over the old surface, giving you a smooth, deep-black driveway or lot for a fraction of the cost and mess of a full replacement. We resurface homes and businesses across San Diego, coast to East County.
When an overlay is the smart call
An overlay works when the base is still sound and the trouble is on the surface — spread-out cracking, raveling, fading, and shallow dips. If the sub-base has gone, with potholes and alligator cracking that run all the way through, a new layer on top won't grip for long and full-depth replacement is the better value over time. We probe the base before we quote and tell you straight which one your pavement actually needs — no upselling a tear-out you don't need.
How we lay an overlay properly
- Surface prep — sweeping clean, then filling cracks and patching potholes so the new layer rides over a sound surface.
- Milling where it counts — grinding the old asphalt down at garage aprons, gutters, and transitions so the finished height lands right.
- Tack coat — a bonding layer so the overlay locks onto the surface beneath it.
- New asphalt & compaction — a fresh wear course rolled tight for a smooth, hard-wearing finish.
Make the new surface last
A resurfaced driveway or lot usually runs 8–15 years. Staying on top of crack filling and sealcoating every couple of years guards it against San Diego's sun and coastal moisture and pushes that lifespan toward the top end. Overlays are a regular fix on both driveways and commercial lots.
