An overlay works when the base is still sound and the trouble is on the surface — spread-out cracking, raveling, fading, and shallow dips. If the sub-base has gone, with potholes and alligator cracking that run all the way through, a new layer on top won't grip for long and full-depth replacement is the better value over time. We probe the base before we quote and tell you straight which one your pavement actually needs — no upselling a tear-out you don't need.

How we lay an overlay properly

Will an overlay raise the height of my driveway?

An overlay adds roughly 1.5–2 inches. Where that's a problem at a garage, gutter, or transition, we mill the existing surface down first so the finished height stays correct.

Is resurfacing cheaper than a full replacement?

Usually significantly, because the overlay reuses the existing base instead of tearing it out. When the base has failed, though, replacement is the more economical fix over the long run.
